The joy of riding in the rains :D
Rains bring along a lot of things, dangers and myths. Myths in the mind of bikers. Yeah i agree that roads become slippery, oil mixed with water can be deadly, and you get blinded by the water coming off heavy vehicles' tyres but then , it aint that bad mind you.
For instance, i take 32-36mins to ride to my office daily from home (23kms) and even today i took the same time, in rains. Ok, i take a lil precaution on the turns, but thats about it.
Untill unless you wanna play MotoGp on the roads, rains dont pose much of a harm to us. If you take out this mental block, you will enjoy a lot. Infact, its amusing, overtaking all those pussycat vehicles on the roads, who go no more than 50km/h just because its raining cats and dogs! I m not saying ride hard, but there is no harm in riding fast. Yesterday only, i was doing a good 100 on the palm beach road, with rain drops hitting my bare hands (wasnt wearin gloves...) like needles do, but the bike felt well in control at even 100. Same goes for turning, i still take that vashi juction curve at good speeds.
Just keep an eye for oil spills and slush on the road, ride with your headlights on to warn other traffic and make good use of the horn. And enjoy the rains till they last :)
One more thing, if the bike aint starting , when kept out in the open under the rains, there can be two reasons
1. the carb has water. just drain the carb by openin the drain screw.
2. the plug has water. jus remove the cap, make it dry, and plug it back.
All the best.
I am using this pic to again show that tyres still get enuf grip in rains :D
